RUNNER/GRIDLOCK is a real-time action rogue-like. You control a RUNNER and you must drift, dodge, and steal your way through an abstract procedural city.

Too late, you notice the tell-tale glint of a laser designator dancing across your visual sensors as you cross a crowded intersection at high speed. They've got a lock on you. You drift hard to the north. Hopefully you can break their lock with a detour through the alley ahead and still make it to the exit with your package intact.

CONTROLS

  • Tap WASD to move.
  • Hold WASD to accelerate.
  • Hold SHIFT to engage turbo (when at top speed)
  • Hold SPACE to brake
  • Press B to reset.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Seek out a green vehicle with a DATA CORE to steal. One is active at a time; check your minimap to see where. Drive along-side it to complete the objective.
  2. Avoid the COPTER. It will quickly shred your RUNNER.
  3. COPTER will seek you if any enemy has a lock on your at the moment.
  4. Fill the objective meter to unlock an exit.
  5. Break all locks to regenerate integrity.

Another year, another video.

Hi Drew. Big fan of your presentation in this one and I always enjoy a top-down driving game. With my poor skills, I had much more fun once I turned off the helicopter and started on the small map -- so would recommend that to anyone trying for the first time. Also needed the hint about the green cars being the target (and the minimap) to be made a bit more prominently in the first game because I didn't get that the first couple of times -- too busy getting trashed by the heli! The vehicle feels very heavy, which took some getting used to. It would be interesting to see a variant with a more nimble vehicle and a higher pace of play. Anyway, definitely a fun one that plays nice and quickly once I got the hang of it. Thanks!
